PACJA pledges to support LDCs in COP27
September 14, 2022AFRICAN CIVIL SOCIETY RESPONSE TO JOHN KERRY’S ADDRESS TO THE RESUMED 18TH SESSION OF THE AFRICAN MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE ON ENVIRONMENT
September 17, 2022To all the people of Pakistan, and the larger Asian communities, not to mention Uganda and others currently experiencing floods;
Our colleagues fighting for climate justice in the global south;
The Pan African Climate Justice Alliance stands with you.
That 33 million people, representing 15% of the Pakistani population is displaced and more than half of Pakistan submerged under water has not elicited global emergency financial support is to say the least, despicable! SHAME ON YOU UNGA2022!! Neither the developed governments nor the multilateral systems have stepped in to compensate for loss and damage due to the impacts of climate change that the innocent Pakistani never caused. The latest Assessment Report by the Intergovernmental panel on climate change shows that Pakistan contributes to less than 1% of carbon emissions.
At COP27, we will urge the developed countries for commitment to honour pledges made on climate finance and unequivocally call for a UN mechanism to finance loss and damage due to climate change. We can no longer stand this lackadaisical attitude of the West that remains inert when lives of the vulnerable in the South get lost, homes and livelihood destroyed. This must go down as crimes against humanity as it violates all the rights and dignity of the vulnerable communities in the global south.
Pakistani, We rise up with you!
