Africa must move from climate commitments to tangible action. The African Non-State Actors Position for UNFCCC COP31, themed “From Belém to Antalya: Delivering Climate Justice, Protecting Africa’s Development Space and Financing Africa’s Transformation,” calls for accountable climate finance, stronger adaptation implementation, a just energy transition, protection of livelihoods and decent jobs, and fairer global financial and trade systems. It emphasises that Africa must retain greater value from its natural resources while ensuring that climate action advances industrialisation, resilience and sustainable development.
As the world looks towards COP31 in Antalya, Türkiye, African non-state actors are urging governments to translate promises into measurable outcomes, expand accessible grant-based climate finance, strengthen community participation and place affected people at the centre of climate decision-making.
