August 25, 2023The Regional Workshop on Health and Climate Change witnessed a remarkable culmination of efforts, as participants from diverse sectors and backgrounds united to foster a common understanding and craft a shared position on the critical nexus of climate change and public health.
The workshop was held for three days from 22nd to 24th August , 2023, in Lilongwe, Malawi. The workshop proved to be a pivotal platform for fostering collaboration, driving advocacy, and advancing meaningful action in addressing the pressing challenges faced by African communities.
The workshop drew together a constellation of distinguished leaders, experts, policymakers, researchers, and advocates, all of whom brought their unique perspectives to the table. Discussions spanned a spectrum of crucial topics, from the undeniable impact of climate change on health systems to the imperative of integrating data and evidence into global climate negotiations. Throughout the event, participants engaged in robust dialogues, exchange of insights, and knowledge-sharing sessions that aimed to deepen their collective understanding and catalyze coordinated action.
The culmination of the workshop was marked by the formulation of a shared common position on climate change and health. This position reflects the consolidated views and commitments of participants, outlining a comprehensive approach that bridges health considerations with climate change policies and negotiations. The common position underscores the urgency of addressing the health impacts of climate change, advocating for increased funding, data transparency, and cross-sector collaboration.
