Climate Action: Why does PACJA stand firm on a call to break silos?
September 24, 2024PACJA and Practical Action Sign Historic MoU to Advance Climate Justice Across Africa
October 24, 2024As we reflect on the achievements of this quarter, our journey in the climate justice realm continues to gain momentum, highlighting our unwavering commitment to transformative change across Africa. The recent period has been marked by pivotal engagements that underscore our dedication to advancing climate justice and fostering sustainable development throughout the continent.
Our collaboration with the African Green Climate Finance National Designated Authorities Network (AFDAN) has been instrumental in shaping Africa’s climate finance landscape. Through strategic dialogues and partnerships, we have worked to enhance the continent’s ability to mobilize climate finance and ensure that it reaches the most vulnerable communities. These efforts are crucial in scaling up resources and fostering resilience in the face of climate change.
At the Africa Multi-Stakeholder Conference on Carbon Markets, we navigated the complex terrain of carbon markets, addressing both the opportunities and challenges they present. This forum was vital in framing Africa’s approach to these markets, ensuring that our strategies align with our climate justice principles while exploring innovative solutions to reduce emissions and enhance sustainable development.
The Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDAXII) pre-events were another highlight, where critical discussions and strategies were developed to inform Africa’s engagement with COP29 and beyond. These events focused on mobilizing climate finance, advancing adaptation efforts, and ensuring that Africa’s voice is heard on the global stage. Our dialogue emphasized the need for a robust and activist stance in securing the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on Climate Finance, underscoring the importance of addressing the adaptation finance gap and advocating for fair climate contributions from developed nations.
In addition to these engagements, our participation in global platforms has been instrumental in furthering our objectives. At the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the Global People’s Assembly, and the Summit of the Future, we championed climate justice, advocating for a future that integrates equity, inclusivity, and sustainability in all global climate actions. These high-level forums provided a platform to amplify Africa’s demands and ensure that our perspectives remain central to the global climate discourse.
The ACCER initiative has further illustrated the power of journalism in driving climate justice. By recognizing and supporting the work of journalists across Africa, we are amplifying voices that are essential in holding stakeholders accountable and advancing the narrative on climate finance and justice.
Moreover, our focus on leveraging Africa’s critical minerals is pivotal in advancing the just transition agenda. By tapping into our own resources, we are not only fostering development across all sectors but also reinforcing our commitment to a climate justice agenda that prioritizes sustainability and equity.
Moving forward, we are guided by a vision of a just and resilient Africa, where climate justice is integral to our development strategy. Our continued engagements and collaborations are key to realizing this vision, and we look forward to further advancing these goals with renewed vigor and commitment.
