September 3, 2022At a meeting in in Libreville, Gabon, Dr Augustine Ndjamnshi joined the African Group of Negotiators of the CBD to give a CSO position on the Convention framework.
Dr Ndjamnshi said the aim of the meeting was to look into the Africa’s contribution into the framework aimed at have nature-positive citizens. He said the African person is by nature positive.
He said African technocrats could learn from caring women who grow the food people eat through caring mother earth. He noted that the CBD recognizes that Africa’s way of life is very important.
“But the question is how much do policy makers even in Africa consider nature, talkless of it is being considered in the various meetings which discuss issues of nature,” he said.
He wondered if grassroot women have a sit on the table. He urged for Africa to consider culture, and traditions in their planning. “It is time for African negotiators to go back to the basics by learning from what our caring mothers have succeeded to do over the years,” said Ndjamnshi.
