DAILY Memento of PACJA Engagement: DAY 10- COP29
November 21, 2024Exit Press Release : Baku should not be final resting place for Paris Agreement!
November 22, 2024As COP29 approaches its conclusion, the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) is raising a clarion call for justice and equity in the global climate finance agenda. With the release of the disappointing draft New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) text, it’s clear that the voices of the vulnerable have been sidelined.
Why Does This Matter?
Africa and other developing regions, while least responsible for the climate crisis, bear its brunt. Our collective demand for USD $1.3 trillion—a figure grounded in the urgent needs of vulnerable communities—has been disregarded in favor of inadequate, debt-inducing proposals.
The global community cannot afford to compromise on climate finance. The NCQG must reflect the urgency of the climate crisis and the moral responsibility of developed nations to support those on the frontlines of its impacts.
Africa’s voice is clear: climate finance must be equitable, transformative, and just. As the curtains fall on COP29, we urge negotiators to rise to this challenge, leaving no one behind in the fight against climate change.
