Mombasa, Kenya| November 22 2021: The Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) is collaborating with four other institutions to launch the African Activists for Climate Justice Project today, Monday the November 22 2021 in Mombasa, Kenya.
The African Activists for Climate Justice (AACJ) is a five-year programme funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. The programme will be implemented in eight African countries: Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Senegal, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Mozambique and South Africa. The Project’s goal is to amplify and unite the voices in Africa demanding that women, youth and local and indigenous communities in the target countries can defend and realize their human rights and live a decent and dignified life in a healthy and sustainable environment, within the context of the climate emergency.
The Consortium
The AACJ consortium is led by the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA), a coalition of over 1000 civil society organisations spread across 48 countries in the African continent that promote climate justice. Other consortium members include: Natural Justice, Oxfam Novib, FEMNET and African Youth Commission as implementing partner. The AACJ consortium believes that building strong and inclusive movements for climate justice in African, starting with the target countries, will be an engine for a powerful pan-African movement for climate justice.
Purpose
This launch brings together stakeholders in governments, multilateral agencies and civil society organisations across Africa and beyond to raise and build awareness about the AACJ Project. This event will also lay the ground for future engagements that will help AACJ consortium in building a strong inclusive African movement for Climate Justice. Specifically, this launch will:
