Not even a quarter of the climate finance set aside by international funds since 2016 have been directed towards locally led action to aid adaptation to climate change, it has emerged. According to the International Institute of Environment Development, only about 10 per cent (about $1.3 billion) of funding is committed to the local level for climate adaptation. Further down to the grassroots, it is never really clear if the target beneficiaries of such funds use the money on projects that focus on adaptation or mitigation of the climate crisis, as envisioned.
