PACJA at the New York Climate Week to advance Africa Climate Justice

Climate Week NYC is back September 20–27, 2026. Global leaders, civil society and others are convening in New York, US, for Climate Week. Climate Week, coinciding with the UN General Assembly, will largely focus on energy, the impact and the action.

Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) joins the rest of Civil society organisations, experts and other climate activists to engage in discussions that connect people and ideas shaping how the world lives, works and builds a low-carbon economy and a more secure future.

Represented by its Executive Director, Dr Mithika Mwenda and  Dr Augustine Njamnshi, the Chair of the Political and  Technical Affairs Committee on the PACJA Board,  our participation is not a simple one or passive attendance.

We are actively engaging in a series of high-level events focusing on advancing African climate Justice, Climate Finance, resilience and strategic partnerships.

From events such as the Unstoppable Africa Summit, Resilience Dialogues event, and financing discussions under the Global Climate Action agenda to other series, PACJA not only carries the perspectives of African communities’ voices but also plays a solid and candid role in making the continent resilient and providing solutions despite stern challenges, including insufficient climate finance for locally-led climate action.

These engagements are expected to provide opportunities to amplify perspectives on locally-led climate action, strengthen alliances with governments, philanthropies, academia, the private sector, and civil society and elevate communication approaches that translate climate justice into compelling public narratives.

PACJA is not participating with words, but with concrete examples showcasing the reality of how financing locally led climate actions bring change. Examples to be shared include the Climate Justice Impact Fund for Africa (CJIFA), which was established by PACJA in collaboration with Partners to accelerate transformative climate action as an imperative of climate justice and amplify the voices of communities on the front lines of the climate crisis in African countries and communities. Success stories of how African   Youth are taking into their hands the future climate Finance systems are another important PACJA flagship carried through ACSEA.  Through the latter, Youth for Adaptation Finance for Africa (YAF) is mobilising and building climate finance knowledge, amplifying community-led solutions and influencing the policies that shape National Adaptation Plans, NDCs, the Global Goal on Adaptation and international climate finance.

Alongside Climate Week activities, PACJA will use the United Nations General Assembly week to deepen policy and financing for Africa, calling for shifting from commitments and deploy resources at the local level. This week, PACJA will continue advocating for equitable climate finance and stronger recognition of frontline communities as central actors in global climate decision-making.
