November 5, 2024The Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) and Practical Action have marked a significant milestone today by officially partnering by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This powerful collaboration is set to champion locally-led climate solutions and enhance the resilience of Africa’s most vulnerable communities.
The partnership is focused on tackling key areas such as energy access, resilient agriculture, climate resilience, and policy influence. By combining PACJA’s vast network, which spans 52 countries, with Practical Action’s on-the-ground expertise, the two organizations are committed to driving sustainable and impactful solutions. Together, they will empower communities to take charge of their futures and ensure that climate justice is realized at every level.
Charles Mwangi, PACJA’s Head of Programmes, emphasized the importance of focusing on energy and agriculture. He noted that both sectors are crucial for building resilience against climate impacts, and this partnership provides an opportunity to address these areas more effectively. Roselyn Akinyi Walender, Africa Director at Practical Action, underscored the significance of the partnership by stating, “Our shared vision for climate justice will drive meaningful, locally-led solutions that benefit those most in need.”
Dr. Mithika Mwenda, Executive Director of PACJA, reiterated the core mission of the collaboration, saying, “The solution will come from empowering the communities we serve, not from external players.” Walender echoed this sentiment, adding, “This collaboration is about amplifying the voices of the last-mile communities we serve. By bringing together our expertise and PACJA’s immense network, we’ll ensure that these communities are not just part of the conversation, but that their experiences shape the policies that impact their futures.”
This MoU represents a commitment to ensuring that African communities, often disproportionately affected by the climate crisis, are not left behind. It is a bold step toward creating climate resilience from the ground up, reinforcing the principles of climate justice, and advocating for a sustainable future for all.
