March, 5, 2023- Lilongwe, Malawi,
PACJA has launched a 3 years project on “supporting Needs Based Advocacy on Adaptation in Africa.” The project will be implemented in 10 African countries including Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, Mali, Nigeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and Senegal in partnership with Organization of African Instituted Churches (OAC), Eat African Farmers Federation (EAFF) , ACT Alliance are the partners on the implementation of the project.
African communities are particularly vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change, including droughts, floods, and extreme weather conditions. This calls for a collective effort to develop and implement effective adaptation strategies at the local level. PACJA recognizes that a support needs-based approach is a crucial aspect of effective adaptation initiatives. This approach prioritizes community needs, enhances local capacities, and strengthens partnerships to enable coordinated and sustainable interventions.
One of the objectives of this project is to strengthen a coalition of core constituencies in Africa as a lead voice shaping the national and international policy debate on climate adaptation. By adopting a community-centered approach to adaptation, the project seeks also to build local capacities, strengthen partnerships, and promote innovative and inclusive solutions to climate change impacts. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the voices and needs of the most vulnerable communities are heard and addressed in climate policy and action at all levels.
The launch of PACJA’s support needs based in adaptation project signifies a crucial step towards empowering African constituencies to address their adaptation needs and priorities. By exploring innovative approaches, sharing best practices, adopting a gender-sensitive and inclusive approach, establishing a robust monitoring and evaluation framework, engaging policymakers and decision-makers, the project aims to ensure the sustainability of adaptation interventions in the long run.
It also provides a promising framework for addressing the urgent challenge of climate change in African communities. By prioritizing community needs and building local capacities, engaging stakeholders and partners at different levels, and advocating for policy integration and sustainability, the project aims to enhance the resilience and empowerment of vulnerable constituencies.. As we continue to face the impacts of climate change, it is essential to prioritize adaptation and work towards building resilience in vulnerable communities. With continued efforts and partnerships, we can create a more sustainable and just future for all Africans
