Mithika Mwenda

Co-Founder and current Executive Director the Civil Society network,  Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA), Mithika Mwenda has extensively worked in climate change policy advocacy having worked previously as the Climate Change Officer with the All Africa Conference of Churches and Climate Network Africa.

Before this, he worked and volunteered in numerous Governance/human rights and Democracy organizations in Kenya that opened democratic space and respect for human rights. His leadership skills were honed at Moi University where he was the Vice-Chairman for the Student Union.

Mithika has a Master of Science in Public Policy Analysis from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Kenya, Bachelors degree in Education (English Literature) from Moi University in Kenya and Post-graduate training on Globalisation and Social Transformation from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok. 

The University of Kwa Zulu Natal in South Africa, one of the most prestigious centres of excellence in the World, granted him a scholarship to pursue studies on research.

He is widely published and has travelled widely to offer motivational speeches to many countries and institutions in the world. 

He was a Co-Convener of the National Convention Executive Council in 2000s, which premiered and spearheaded the agitation for the new constitution, 2010. He has founded several community-based initiatives which have transformed peoples lives.

As a human rights crusader, Mzalendo has been at the forefront of the so-called second liberation. He has suffered under ruthless law enforcement officers, where he has won several cases against the state once incarcerated. See this link http://www.ogiek.org/news/news-post-05-06-7.htm

A French Magazine named him one of the 50 most Influential people in Africa in 2015 due to his work on environment, where he represents Africa in several institutions, including the World Bank, African Union, UN, etc.

A Swedish organization, Diakonia, named him one of change makers in its work in 2014 due to the role he played in founding PACJA, which has emerged as the most influential organisations in the world.
